Our Instructor

Danielle Walwyn

Danielle Walwyn, better known as ‘Dani’, is a health and wellness advocate. As a fitness instructor, she is particularly passionate about physical activity promotion and making physical activity accessible to all. She started her fitness instructor journey in 2015 when she became a certified Zumba instructor. Since then, Zumba has allowed her to connect and move with people in Ontario, Canada and throughout the Caribbean. Dani promotes the saying “every move counts”, and in her classes, once you move, you can’t get it wrong.

Dani has a Master of Science Degree with a specialisation in Health Promotion (Physical Activity). She has executed physical activity research in Antigua and consulted on the development of local, school-based health promotion interventions. Her research has allowed her to present at numerous regional and international conferences.

Dani has also consulted on the development of healthy school policies in the Caribbean - advocating for the use of a whole-of-school approach to physical activity. Through her work at the Healthy Caribbean Coalition, Dani has also consulted on advocacy campaigns aimed to support healthier environments where the easy choice is the healthy choice. These advocacy efforts have focused on the implementation of healthy food policies, mental health system transformation and the empowerment of youth, civil society and persons living with non-communicable diseases.

Dani has also facilitated a number of physical activity demonstrations (including movement breaks) and community-based presentations focused on the benefits of physical activity and physical activity environments.

As a visiting faculty for the American University of Antigua’s Global Health Track, Dani sensitizes future physicians to the role of physical activity in protecting global health.

One last thing - Dani loves dogs! Her dogs Bello and Mocha often join her for her virtual fitness classes when she is in Antigua.
